Haydn: The Creation

Seiji Ozawa Hall - 297 West Street, Lenox, MA, United States

Online Sale Ended

Following a performance of Handel’s Israel in Egypt in Westminster Abbey in 1791, Haydn was fired up to write his own oratorio on a similarly large-scale biblical theme. The music displays Haydn’s unfussy optimism and is arguably some of the most memorable and life-enhancing music ever to have been written.

“Imagine an oratorio with the awesome intricacy of Bach’s Mass in B minor yet the sublime contentment of Mozart’s Magic Flute and you will have some idea of The Creation.”

Anthony Tomasini, The New York Times

With a “dark-hued tone and razor-sharp technique” (The New York Times), Russian-American violinist Yevgeny Kutik has captivated audiences worldwide with an old-world sound that communicates a modern intellect. Praised for his technical precision and virtuosity, he is also lauded for his poetic and imaginative interpretations of standard works as well as rarely heard and newly composed repertoire.

Berkshire's Premiere Children's Choruses Join Forces

The Berkshire Children’s Chorus will join our own Blafield Children’s Chorus in the brief Haydn Te Deum to open the concert. It is a short festive work written about the same time as the Creation, and will be sung with full strings, brass and timpani. What a fantastic experience for seventy young local singers.
